RE: SB 49: Next hearing, Sac Bee EditorialHi Folks,
The next hearing on SB 49, authored by Senator Betty Karnette (D-Long Beach) is likely to be on August 20th, before the Assembly Appropriations Committee. There is growing concern that Karnette will be pressured into amending her bill to require that a donor's city data (in addition to street address) be omitted from the online records. In response to this concern, the Sacramento Bee recently published an editorial, which provides an excellent overview of the situation. Many electronic filing proponents are also planning to mobilize their members for grassroots lobbying efforts during the legislative recess (which will begin whenever the budget it passed.)
