RE: Digital Sunlight Legislative Round-up
Hi Folks,
We are still waiting to hear the final word from Governor Pete Wilson on SB 49.
The latest news is that it looks like there won't be a signing ceremony after all,
due to a time crunch and scheduling problems. (I have been assured that this doesn't
indicate he has changed his mind about the bill, but nothing is final until the bill
is signed).
In the meantime, I thought it would be helpful to put together a state-by-state round-up on digital sunlight efforts among state legislatures. The amazingly good news is that no less than 13 state legislatures acted
this year to move campaign disclosure into the digital sunlight. Meanwhile, 17 other
states are also moving forward with voluntary or mandatory electronic filing programs.
This report, along with much more info about online disclosure, is available at
CVF's Digital Sunlight Web site, http://www.digitalsunlight.org.
