Absentee Ballot California

Marilyn Said:

How do you get an absentee ballot in California?

We Answered:

Go to the web site of your county registrar of voters, and there will be information on how to apply for an absentee ballot. You will probably be able to do it right on line.

Roberto Said:

How do I apply for an absentee ballot in California?

We Answered:

no one knows how to apply. Because everyone is absent where they do those forms. The person that was supposed to handle it, was not present at the time.

Alan Said:

When are California Absentee ballots counted?

We Answered:

We begin processing absentee ballots several days prior to the Election. We continue processing absentee ballots until they are finished, then we move onto faxed ballots and provisionals. Smaller counties probably have the most current count several days following the election, but the larger ones take awhile. We all have 28 days following an election to have the Certified Final Election Results.

I am sorry about Prop 8, but the majority has already sounded and we do not have enough ballots uncounted to change those results.

You can pass some extremely useful information along to your college friends. So many students from Southern Oregon, Southern Cali, and everywhere could not understand the voting process. For some reason, they never registered by the October 20 deadline, they voted provisionally in counties they were not registered in, they did not request absentee ballots to be mailed to their schools, they were not informed on the election rules at all in this state. I had one girl wait until the day prior to the election to call and say her ballot never arrived where she was going to college. What are we to do a day prior to the election? Just to dispel a myth of voting, anyone who voted a provisional ballot in another county that they were not registered in, will NOT have their vote counted. They wasted their time. For every absentee ballot that was dropped of in election offices or polling places that did not originate from that county, well....they are not counted either. The information is not forwarded to the other county, it is not counted.

Please better inform your college friends. I had so many come in to waste their time voting, when their vote would never count. It took 15 to 30 minutes to vote provisionally, it will take another 15 to 30 minutes to verify they had no right to vote in the county, and we made people who could follow the States laws wait while we catered to college students who were educated in everything but how to vote responsibly.

You all could have made a difference if anyone ever informed them of how the system works. I am not trying to make you angry, but really, pass on the truth to your friends and tell them in the future not to wait until the day or week prior to the election. The ones who did, didn't make a difference at all.

Why doesn't the California absentee ballot have space for write ins? It is just the computer form w/bubbles?

We Answered:

I honestly don't know, perhaps you could call your local elections office about this. Sorry I couldn't be of a bigger help.
