Ballot Papers And Voting

Carol Said:

Why I WON'T be voting - A question about my ballot papers and also about parties standing for election?

We Answered:

White ones for General.
Yellows for Local.

But if it was only the Lib.Lab.Con on my paper i'd want to wipe my **** on it and send it like that.

Irene Said:

When you got to vote, do you have the party leaders on the ballot papers or do you have the MPs?

We Answered:

We vote to elect the local MP. In theory, parties play no part in the Parliamentary election system at all. Each candidate is listed on the ballot paper by name, with a description in smaller print underneath the name. Each candidate is allowed six words for a description and of course any candidate who is a party candidate uses that to give the name of their party. Anyone over 21 can stand for election whether they are a member of a party or not.

The only people who will see the name of a party leader on the ballot paper are voters in the constituency where the party leader IS that party's local candidate to be MP.

The Prime Minister is not directly elected. In fact the post doesn't officially exist at all in any written law - such is the oddity of not having a written constitution - it is a Royal appointment, and by constitutional convention, the Queen appoints whoever is most likely to command support in the House of Commons and form a stable government. If one party wins over 50% of the seats, and this happens most of the time, the choice is obvious - the winning party leader. The reason there is so much discussion this time about a possible hung Parliament and what might happen then is that with a significant third party (the Liberal Democrats) who seem to be enjoying a surge of support, the result looks like being a close-run thing.

Lori Said:

What are the two requirements for a "paper ballot" voting?

We Answered:

Work on this site as there is enough information in this site click here.

Dolores Said:

Are there any organizations dedicated to enforcing Paper Ballot Voting instead of Electronic Voting?

We Answered:

I also feel that the electronic voting is dangerous. You have no proof if who you really voted for is what was counted. I also think you should have to show proof of id, everyone over 18 usually has to have a drivers license or id card so what is the problem. If you don't want to pay the state for the id card then you should be able to get a free id to use to vote. Then there can't be the complaint that people vote more than once or dead people voting. Also the voting workers should be checked into, the people at my voting place are the neighborhood drug dealers and drunks. No no one will do anything about it, I tried.
