From a traditional and religious perspective, your definition of marriage is correct. However, that definition includes moral and religious connotations which the state has no role in arbitrating. The real problem is with the state issuing licenses for what is truly a religious ceremony. State and Federal government should have no role in defining what is properly a religious term. Certainly there are civil aspects to marriages as well, but contractual disputes between individuals can arise and be resolved without getting into the messy business of legislating morality. I am Bible believing Christian. My opposition to this amendment is not an endorsement of its opposite. But this "remedy" is a an attempt to treat a symptom of an illness that the state cannot cure. And by placing this matter within the scope of state authority, you risk suffering the consequences if popular opinion reverses.
