Re: Citizens Petition Question #1 in Mass, USA this week. (Also asked in Beer, Wine Spirits and in Business)?

We Answered:

I dunno, in CA we can buy beer, wine, or hard liquor in our grocery stores.....I don't understand why the other states don't move out of the dark ages.

Edward Said:

Please: give me some pros and cons of eliminating State Income tax?

We Answered:

MA is blessed with one of the lower Sales Taxes in the US. Eliminating the Income Tax would be rough on the working poor who pay little income tax but would be clobbered by a doubling of the Sales Tax.

A proper graduated Income Tax would probably better serve the residents of MA than doubling the modest Sales Tax.

Tracy Said:

Wine sales in USA - re: Ballot Question in Mass. (also asked in Politics-Elections and in Food&Drink)?

We Answered:

I do not know of any such states off the top of my head. I know NV can sell anything in a supermarket and WA wine and beer is available in the supermarkets. It would seem odd to be able to purchase only wine and not beer.

Allan Said:

Please give me your thoughts on pros and cons of eliminating state income tax? ?

We Answered:

Winners:
High income people, whopay less of a percentage of their income on "goods," will pay less of a percentage on tax.
Frugal people who don't consume much.

Losers:
Low income people with pay more of a percentage of income on "goods," will have a higher tax rate.
People who consume a lot.

Of course, it depends much on the details.
