Just a suggestion....It will save you 5pts! :-)

Tom Said:

Why did the major Democratic Presidential Nominees withdraw their names from the Michigan Primary Ballot?

We Answered:

The Demcratic National Commitee STRIPPED Michigan of its delegate points because they upped the date of their primary.
The republican national commitee STRIPPED Michigan of Half of their delegates for the same reason.
With No delegates to win and money being tight, most of the dems decided to spend and champain in states where they would get delegates instead.

Christy Said:

Michigan Primary?

We Answered:

You're right...Obama and Edwards removed their names from the ballot after the DNC said Michigan was violating party rules by moving their primary up to an unacceptable date. Clinton refused to remove her name from the ballot.

My husband met Howard Dean a couple of weeks ago, and Dean told him that the delegates from MI and FL will be seated by the nominee...translation: there will already be a nominee (he's already gone on record saying he won't allow it to go to convention) and then the nominee will allow the delegates to be seated, just so they can participate, but their votes won't mean anything because there will already be a nominee. I hope that makes sense.

Heidi Said:

Why is Barack Obama not on the Michigan Democratic Primary Ballot?

We Answered:

Michigan Democrats, who have scheduled a Jan. 15 presidential primary in violation of scheduling rules set by the Democratic National Committee (DNC), have been officially stripped of their entire 156-member delegation to the party's national convention in August.

Saturday marked the end of the 30-day grace period the Democratic National Committee's rules and bylaws committee gave the Michigan Democratic Party to set up an alternative to the Jan. 15 primary, which was established by a recently enacted state law that passed in the Michigan legislature with bipartisan support and was signed into law by Democratic Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm. The DNC invoked a similar penalty on the Florida Democratic Party, which is going ahead with a Jan. 29 primary that also violates the national party's scheduling rules.

But the candidates had different interpretations of whether they were obligated to pull their names off Michigan's primary ballot, which has produced a major imbalance. The only candidate among the Democratic front-runners whose name is on the Michigan ballot is New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton; she is joined only by two longshots who are still bidding for votes -- Ohio Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich and former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel -- and Connecticut Sen. Christopher J. Dodd, who quit the race after a poor performance in Iowa.

Since Michigan will have no voting delegates at the convention it does not matter who is on the ballot.

Billy Said:

Do you think that Obama and Edwards should have removed their names from the Michigan primary ballot?

We Answered:

Well the win is virtually meaningless; because no delegates are awarded to any of the Democratics listed on the ballot. The State of Michigan didn't comply with the DNC. The delegates will be given to the DNC Nominee. To answer your question I believe both Clinton and Kucinich should have been in uniance with all the other DNC candidates.

Clifford Said:

Why is senator Hillary Clinton the only Democrat on the Michigan primary ballot?

We Answered:

Strange but true. Apparently, the party politics in Michigan have turned their primaries into an unmitigated mess.

DNC rules allow only Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina to stage their primaries before Feb. 5. Michigan has thumbed its nose at the DNC and is pressing ahead with the early primary date. Hillary's keeping her name on that ballot, but the rest of the field has dropped out.

Because of the early date, the DNC has penalized Michigan by removing all of its delegates to the convention. Now it's little more than a "beauty contest." Florida is in the same situation. Crazy that two of the states with the most delegates won't have a hand in selecting the nominee because those states decided to do something that went against both parties' rules.

Discuss It!
