Republican Primary Ballot
Dora Said:
Who will be in the New Hampshire Republican Primary in 2012?We Answered:
Sarah PalinMitt Romney
Bobby Jindal
Mike Huckabee
David Petraeus
Ron Paul
George Allen
I'd love Condoleezza Rice, but it's doubtful she'll run.
McCain and Rudy Giuliani are most likely done.
Tracy Said:
Can the Democratic Party refuse to put a candidate on the primary ballot if he has the petition signatures? We Answered:
They cannot prevent it being placed on the primary ballot.Well, I'm not sure how NY primaries work, but in the national primaries they have a bunch of superdelegates who have votes. If the superdelegates oppose the candidate, he will not have enough total votes even if he got the most support from the general population in the primary election. So the party leadership can control who goes on the ballot in the general election that way.
Isaac Said:
When you vote in a primary election do you only only vote on a Republican or Democratic ballot? We Answered:
It all depends on the election laws in your state. Primaries are normally either open (where voters can cross party lines) or closed (where voters can only vote for those within their party). To find out more about voting in your state, go here: http://www.declareyourself.com/voting_fa… .Dean Said:
If I am registered as an independent do I get a democratic and republican ballot in the primary? We Answered:
I don't believe you get to vote in the primary, that is why I declared a party last time.Gilbert Said:
If these Republican candidates were on the primary ballot for 2012 who would you most likely go for?We Answered:
I find Pearberr's choices to be odd...he/she goes for Paul for explicit libertarian reasons, but admits a weakness for Huckabee, a religious conservative who isn't remotely libertarian in any way, and a creationist to boot?! Hey, your call. Just seems like an odd pair.Ron Paul..I don't think could win, and not being a libertarian I would have issues with him. But I could get behind him in the general election..and maybe a radically anti-government "Flamethrower" is what we need since our government has gone so far left.
Sarah Palin can get people going, rally the base...she has the right positions, but she is NOT ready for prime time. I'm not a basher, and she might have potential. But let's face it, as of now she'd be better working for the RNC to rally people and raise cash.
Bobby Jindal seems like he might still be a little green himself...but I don't recall off hand how long he's been in office, and I do like him and think it could work.
Newt is to me what Bill Clinton is to many liberals....a smart guy, passionate about government, a "policy wonk", not merely a candidate..he's the Anti-Palin in that regard. But the rest of that equation, is that he's a smart guy with personal failings that mar his integrity, and make it harder to support him. Gingrich used to be a history professor and is the kind of guy that reviews physics books for the hell of it. But his ethical behavior with his marriages is godawful. Maybe if he were a libertarian kind of guy, it would be more forgivable. I don't know how much of "family values" guy he was, so maybe he's not that much of hypocrite.
Mike Huckabee is a really likable guy. Soft spoken, he sounds intelligent and of good character. Unfortunately I think he's too much of a "BushCon". All social values, but not a good anti-government conservative-at ALL. You think 8 years of pseudo conservatism and big government conservatism wasn't enough? Vote for Huckabee. He's the one I think I'd most actively rebel against. Losing a Presidential term would be better than a guarantee of 8 more years of "BushCon" politics.
Mitt Romney I like. He might be my single favorite overall. I think he knows his economics. In an early profile, he arrived at a campaign appearance reading a book on the road. I don't recall the title, but he stepped out talking to the interviewer about what he'd been reading and the problems with "Keynesianism" and where he thinks JMK went wrong.
Jeb Bush...another BushCon. Some of what I said about Huckabee applies here, I'd rather lose than be tied to him for 8 possible years. Except I like Huckabee better, so double all the criticism for Bush. If he gets anywhere near winning the nomination, I will puke. It's hard to think of anything he's GOOD on. He's a religious moderate..one of those guys that would've been Democrat a few generations ago before the hippies invaded and shoved people like him out.
I don't want him either.
So...the most broad candidate for me to prefer is Romney.
No disrespect to Jindal or anything.
Other than the personal failings, Gingrich is perfect.
