Your use of the word "mainstream" really affects the question.

You do not have to vote for Democrat or Republican or a "mainstream party". There are several other parties that can represent your views, you just have to search for them. Don't worry if it's a small candidate or a small political party. The point is that you vote for the candidate that best represents your views.
If you can't find one, just run for office yourself. There is a good chance that if your views are respected by many people just like you, you could win significant votes.
The worst thing that you can possibly do is not vote. Voting is perhaps your greatest right. Yes you have the right to speak and print and peaceably assemble, but the people who make laws affecting those rights are your representatives and President. If you do not vote, you have thrown away your voice in Washington. So make sure you at least vote.

Fiscal responsibility requires our politicians to have the intestinal fortitude to make the right decisions with the best economic improvement outlook for our country. This requires that voters from all parties examine what is important to them and the well-being of their families for the present and the future. With hard choices comes both the responsibility to understand why they are necessary and, what the future gain will be. Our administration is in an instant gratification mode which only allows for quick fixes of no credible value in the long term.

We must stop irrational spending and the shoring up of programs that appear to alleviate our condition but in fact, only prolong the agony and we therefore should be willing to tighten our belts, force accountability for fiscally imprudent decisions and, hold our politicians accountable at the ballot box.
