Independent Party Candidates
Karl Said:
Are there currently any Independent Party candidates serving in office, and at what level? We Answered:
Which Independent Party do you mean? There is not a national independent party, but there are approximately eight organized state parties including two in New York that use some variation of Independent in their names. It is likely that several Independent Party candidates are serving in New York because New York allows a candidate to run on multiple party lines -- thus a Republican candidate could also be the Independent Party candidate. In 2008, running on the America's Independence or American Independent ticket in 15 states, Alan Keyes got around 45,000 votes. In New York, the Independent Party candidate was John McCain. In other states, the Independent Party ran Ralph Nader. In most of these states, the Independent Party candidate did not get enough votes to keep the party on the ballot, so any "Independent Party" that wants to run a candidate in 2012 will have to file by Petition, a very hard process.

Which 4 Independent Party candidates were elected governors? We Answered:
Maine, Oregon and Texas are the only states to have elected formally independent candidates as governor: James B. Longley in 1974 and Angus King in 1994 and 1998 from Maine, Julius Meier in 1930 from Oregon, and Sam Houston in 1859 from Texas. Lowell P. Weicker, Jr. is sometimes mentioned as an independent governor, though this is not technically correct; he ran as A Connecticut Party candidate (which gave him better ballot placement than an unaffiliated candidate would receive), defeating the Democratic and Republican party nominees. Another former governor who is sometimes mentioned as an independent is Jesse Ventura, who actually ran as a member of the Reform Party's Minnesota affiliate, which later disaffiliated from the party and reverted to there original name the Independence Party of Minnesota.ihope this is what your looking for, i had a very very h ard time finding this, but still not sure if this is what your looking for, but did my best, to find it for you, thanks my source was a cute little birdy that help me :) i think i hit most of what your looking for it i was right ?

Does the Electoral College discourage 3rd party and independent candidates? We Answered:
The voters in this country believe that they only have two choices. Democrat or Republican. They apparently don't realize that there are some real good candidates on 3rd party tickets like Chuck Baldwin. If everyone did their homework and checked out these other candidates and voted for them , the Electoral College would have to go with the tide but that will never happen but I am still going to use my freedom to vote for who I feel has our country's best interest at heart rather than continue to throw our country to the wolves. I don't want it on my conscience that I helped get either one of the two candidates in office.Terry Said:

Is it possible for an Independent Party candidate to win a United States Presidential Election? We Answered:
Officially it is possible, the independent would need to steal votes away from both parties to accomplish this though.Technically it's not possible, Roosevelt, one of the most loved presidents of all time, who won multiple reelections finally lost when he tried to run as an independent. If he couldn't do it. it would be nearly impossible for anyone else to.
Rose Said:
Is this a good idea to use in deciding to vote for 3rd party and independent candidates? We Answered:
Tough call. Whomever wins, make sure to write/call their office to make sure they are aware of your ideas and opinions as a voting member of their constituency.
