Michigan Primary Candidates

Viola Said:

why isn't the michigan presidential primary covered by the media, or seem inportant to the candidates?

We Answered:

The Michigan primary is a bit of a odd event. The state of Michigan decided to move its elections from Feb 5th to Jan 15. This decision was denied by a Democratic National Committee vote as it violates some national party rules. As a result the Democratic National Convention stripped Michigan of all its primary voting rights. In other words Michigan has no official effect on the National Convention's decision to endorse one of the candidates.

The Republican National Convention was a bit more kind to Michigan for violating its rules, they have stripped the states votes by 50% as a penality.

See http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P08/ME-D.phtml for more info.

Sonia Said:

Why did some candidates withdraw from the Michigan primary?

We Answered:

Michigan decided to hold its primary ahead of the date approved by the Democratic National Committee. So the DNC stripped Michigan of all of its delegates at the national convention. Also, Edwards, Obama, Biden and Richardson petitioned to have their names removed from the primary ballot to protest the state moving up the primary. Clinton decided to keep her name on the ballot but did not campaign here in the primary.

Audrey Said:

democrats pulling out of michigan primary?

We Answered:

Michigan moved thier primary to an earlier date, in violation of the deocratic party's rules. The candidates who are skipping the primary are abiding by thise rules. The party is probably going to strip Michigan of it's delagtes for this, so it will be an emoty victory for whoever wins.

Patrick Said:

Why are candidates missing on the Michigan ballot for Democrats?

We Answered:

Because Michigan moved up the date of its primary date, the Democratic National Committee did not approve of the state's action and stripped them of their delegates.

In honoring the Committee's rules, all of the front democratic candidates removed their names from the ballots. All except Hillary, of course. No doubt she has her own motiviation for leaving her name on the ballot.

In order to vote for a democratic candidate, citizens there will have to vote "UNCOMMITTED."

Then at the national democratic convention that will be held some time in July, it will be decided who the uncommitted votes will go go to.

Why the Committee allowed New Hampshire to move up its primary date and not Michigan is still puzzling to me.

Why approve of one state doing it and not another one?

Sounds very suspect to me.

Rebecca Said:

Why isn't Obama on Michigan's Primary ballot?

We Answered:

Michigan broke Democratic Party rules by moving it' primary up way to far, and the Dems stripped them of their delegates, rendering their primary meaningless. I think it is a stupid rule myself, but just about every candidate except Clinton (she needs to win somewhere!) had their name removed from the ballot, if they ever put it on at all.

Rene Said:

Why isn't Barak Obama listed as a candidate for president on the Michigan primary ballot?

We Answered:

becuase the Democratic party did not allow Michigan to move its primary date

all the democratic canidates agreed to the ban but then Hillary broke the agreement and put her name on the ballot

vote for "uncommitted"

Obama '08!!

Marion Said:

why isnt Obama on the list of candidates for the Michigan Primary?

We Answered:

Because the Democrats boycotted Michigans primary for moving their primary back from super tuesday. None of the votes count for anything. None of the candidates were suposed to be on the ballot. Hillary chose to still be on the ballot, hoping that the media would give her coverage for winning Michigan even though none of the votes count.

Don't worry, even running unopposed, Hillary is still struggling to get much of a majority.
