The general election is different from the primaries, but I think I can help you. In the general eletion, it makes no difference what you win by... as long as you win you get every electoral vote. So, for example Obama he is leading right now in electoral votes thanks to two states California and New York both were won by Clinton easy over him in the Primaries. If he loses either one of those states it is over for him, because McCain is winning the state Obama won during the primaries. McCain can not win New York, Hillary will not allow her state to go red as long as she is Senator. But, McCain has a great shot at Florida, New Jersey and several other blue states. If he takes a state like New Jersey and get Ohio or PA. I think he will win easy. Since it is winner take all, it is important to campaign in close states. You do not want to waste time and money in states you have already wrapped up and you do not want to waste time and money in states you can not win.
