is it just me, or does anyone else find the all women lists of parliamentary candidates patronising? We Answered:
You know, that's not the first time I've heard a woman saying this, and I agree completely. Why would any woman want to be selected on those grounds? It's discrimination on the grounds of gender, and the excuse that Parliament needs more women is just not good enough.
After all, Margaret Thatcher made it to be Prime Minister on her own talents, so it's not as though a woman couldn't get to Parliament on her own merits.
Just because it's positive discrimination doesn't make it any better, either. Candidates should be selected without any reference to gender. It should be like any other job; to reject anyone on grounds of sex, religion, ethnicity or disability is against the law.
