How do Independent party members pick their candidates if they can't attend a primary election?

We Answered:

most pick them by vote from delegates at the national convention of the party, and most conventions are open to all members of the party.
they can do it by primary , but feel its a waste of time and money.

Delores Said:

If your candidate loeses the Primary election will you switch parties in the general?

We Answered:

I will probably be voting for Romney in the primaries. But no matter what I will NEVER cross party lines. I could never, in good conscience, vote for a democrat. If Rudy or McCain win the nomination I may stay home though.

Julie Said:

If a presidential candidate wins a state primary election, what exactly do they get?

We Answered:

They get momentum in a campaign and attention from the media. They show that they may be for real.

They may get those delegate votes at their party's convention. For instance, a candidate wins in California, they win 55 delegate votes for president at the convention. Delegates can vote for whom they choose, but they typically go the way of their state.
