NEW JERSEY EDUCATION & UNIVERSITIES?

We Answered:

Each university or college can set it's own criteria for admission depending on how competitive admission is to their programs. The state board that governs K-12 education has no authority in this area. The state universities might be more likely to use board requirements as a guideline, but even they are not under the board's jurisdiction.

My advice is to forget about this issue and your excuses for your GPA and create an application essay and package that emphasize your strengths, your maturity, and your reasons for wanting to become a teacher. Most grad schools have a very holistic approach to admissions and are looking mostly for good candidates who they think will succeed in their program and reflect well on the school in their careers.

Why does Obama say he hardly even knew William Ayers?

We Answered:

"Ayers is widely respected ..." I can't even believe I am reading "respected in the same sentence as "Ayers"

Ayers is respected in the Chicago school system -- one of the WORST in the nation, second to Detroit -- and his efforts to fund raise for the school is purely to continue his radical thinking it was never to support the traditional education of those who wanted to encourage math and science, reading and writing, etc...

Just because Annenberg is a Republican and the group was originally started by a group of Republicans does not mean that they support the direction CAC of Chicago. The grant was received but they did not do exactly what they initially led everyone to believe. And Look at who is supporting McCain -- Annengerg.

Ayers is respected by his peers in the most corrupt political arena there is. The fact that he is respected is exactly why we should be fearful of him. He still is unrepentant... he still wishes he could have done more (to hurt and maim others) ... he still thinks he was found not guilty (the guy was never brought to trial because of the idiotic prosecutor) ... and he still thinks like he did back in the day (just trying to assimilate... and doing a good job)

To that end, I think Obama is just trying to assimilate just to ensure he is elected as President and we will only go downhill from there!

QuestBridge is a legitimate, and very highly regarded non-profit organization that matches high-achieving students from low-income families with top colleges and financial aid. Of all of the supposed "college assistance" organizations out there, QuestBridge is certainly one of the most indispensable.

Just as one form of verification, you can read this article from Yale's daily student paper, the Yale Daily News. Written last year, it describes how Yale's newly-begun participation in the QuestBridge National College Match program has brought a new group of talented, but low-income students to the elite Ivy League school. You'll find that article here: http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/univer…

Definitely take the time to learn about QuestBridge - it won't cost you a penny to take advantage of their amazing services. There's a lot to learn, because the program has some very early deadlines, but it's well worth your while.

As for the flyers that you've been receiving - your school district sells the names of graduates to schools that participate in a data gathering service. Often, those lists are classified by things like academic rank, which will allow schools to target students who would seem to have the profile that they're looking for. Other schools use a more scattergun approach - sending information packets and postcards to just about anyone who happens to be graduating soon.

I don't see a single school on your list that's not a well-known, legitimate program. The University of Florida, Butler, and St. John's are all schools with outstanding academic reputations. None of these are Ivy League, but Florida, for example, was ranked as the 42nd best school in the country by US News and World Report this year, and St. John's is one of the top Catholic universities in the US.

Definitely check out QuestBridge - it's a great opportunity for you.

Good luck!

what do recruiters mean by this?

We Answered:

The program does actually exist. That said, it is the most applied for enlistment program and the hardest to qualify for. I spent 18 years as an Army Recruiter, never had a WOFT applicant, but saw at least 50 of them processed by other Recruiters. Of that 50, I believe ONE actually met all the qualifications, passed all the various tests and met both the enlistment physical criteria and met the criteria of a Class I Flight Physical.
A good portion of what you have posted, is for persons already in service (age 46, etc) and do not apply to people applying from civilian life.
Your problem, and the problem most people who have never served in the Military has, is that you think the military is holding its breath waiting to roll out the red carpet for you and that they are prepared to make unlimited waivers in criteria to get you accepted. They aren't.
