That said, it seems clear to me that you have a conflict: you want to study hard and be a success at this new school, but you don't want to upset your old friends. It may not be possible to achieve both goals, so you'll need to choose which is more important to you. Clearly, it should be your studies and your future.

So you'll need to be as clear and as kind as possible with your friends: do as much studying at the library or other spot as possible, but when they are making it hard for you to study, say so, and remind them that you are all there to learn and build prosperous futures, the partying can't be allowed to interfere with that.

I can tell you that your GPA and test scores give you a pretty good shot, although some schools do not accept the ACT and use the SAT as the only test evaluation tool. So, if you haven't taken it yet, please take it and give it your all.

You also have a lot of the extracurricular stuff that colleges such as Cornell and Davidson will use to distinguish among their applicants. With the possible exception of the SAT issue, I'd say you should go for them if they are what you want. You'll never know unless you try. But also apply to at least one "safe" school (a school you're sure you can get into -- frequently a school without such a strong national profile and reputation).
