These neocons want a politician that is, as they see it, electable. I suspect that most actually agree with Paul in private but feel that he will not be able to overcome the liberal candidate because his ideas are too radically good for the average American to understand. After all, this "weirdo" actually believes in absolutely nothing more than strictly following the exact meaning of the constitution and law of the land! What a crazy fool! Who ever heard of such nerve?

Neocons feel a need to start that direction with baby steps, or so I feel. Also some are a bit aggressive on the war front, feeling America is best kept safe by flexing muscles outside its borders. Ron wisely knows that when we spend all our money fighting in 2 or 3 countries, we have nothing left to spend on what dangers pop up in the future elsewhere. This is the folly of the neocons and why Ron's defensive military strategy is wiser than the occupations of Arab nations. There are perhaps 6 other countries that would like to see us blown off the map.
Mainly, to answer your question it is all about perceptions of electability. Ron is the only person that even has a clue of what could save us, and I really doubt if even he could. But most conservatives are more worried about having the best shot at electing a failure than going longshot attempting to elect a rational president.

The tea parties are causing Liberals more trouble than they expected. They are the voice of the American people excercising their freedom of speech. Can you imagine the nightmare it would cause the Democrats if a leader were to step forward from one of these groups and run as an Independent in 2012? Wouldnt win, But would take away a few votes from Democrats!
