Frances Said:

How can the "Sea Shepherd Conservation Society" continue doing what they do?

We Answered:

Yup, these are all very true, logical and honest reports.
There aren't a lot of laws that apply in the deep ocean. As a ship's captain, I find the actions of the Sea Shepherd folks disgraceful, simply for the enormous potential for loss of life. 'Captain' Watson, legally, is not a ship's captain, which exonerates him from certain responsibilities, most especially in situations involving loss of life. The downside, of course, is that he and his 'crew' regularly endanger themselves and their victims in assorted stupid and unsafe hijinks. The majority of the sailors on the Japanese whaling boats are poor fishermen with limited job options, citizens of a nation whose culture does not share the same regard for big animals that others might. The Japanese are engaging in legal commerce, as whaling is not illegal in the areas in which they work. Ramming another ship intentionally, however, IS illegal, and it's only a matter of time before someone is killed, and, unfortunately, chances are it will be a sailor or one of the poor misguided kids that placed their trust in a man who does not know how to run a ship, and has no experience in doing so.
