How To Conserve Electricity

Regina Said:

Do you make it a habit to conserve electricity?

We Answered:

Great question Johnny. Yes, I always make it a habit to conserve electricity. I turn off the lights, turn off the tv, unplug anything not being used. I've bought some energy efficient light bulbs which remarkably cut down the amount of electricity used. I also traded my TV in for an EneryStar television, which also conserves energy. I wish more people could do easy things like that. It's really not too difficult to conserve energy. : )

Bradley Said:

What is the best way to save electricity (conserve energy/water) without spending a lot of money?

We Answered:

1. Unplug everything that you don't use a lot. Many things consume electricity even when they are "turned off". Battery chargers, ac to dc converters, anything with an internal clock, and anything with a remote control are examples of this.

2. Adjust the thermostat up a few degrees in the summer and down a few degrees in the winter.

3. Insulate your hot water tank. The payback period is usually less than one year.

4. Turn down your water heater's thermostat. Set it to around 120 degrees farenheit.

5. As your light bulbs burn out, replace them with compact flourescent bulbs.

6. Wash clothes in cold water.

7. Line dry clothes instead of using a clothes dryer.

8. Enable your computer's power saving mode.

Helen Said:

Isn.t it ironic That the government is telling us to conserve electricity on illuminated bill boards?

We Answered:

It is. I saw a newscaster standing on the street in NYC talking about power usage and all the billboards flashing in the background. Do we really need those? I don't think so. We are bombarded by ads everywhere we go. And I for one, pay no attention to them, in fact, they aggravate me, and probably most other people also. Just think of the power savings if they were all turned off.

Ricky Said:

How do I convince office people to conserve electricity?

We Answered:

Congratualtions for your effort.

Before doing anything else, stop and consider the following things:

What is the reason and consecuence of keeping lights off or on?
Is because safety reasons? Don't fight it againts a wall. Propose alternatives for changing habits and then shape the behavior of those around you. The first step is instead impossing, become a role model in the nicest sense of the definition. Propose how much $ you save by turning that off, sometimes it's a lot easier just to have them change the lightbulbs that having to face a robbery and have everybody to blame on you because your proposal.

"clients would be better served by lowering overhead costs than by having a feeling that there are a lot of agents in the office."
--> Is there a reason behing having customer's perceive there are more agents in the house? Does it represent business? If lights are off, customer's perceive there is no much work, therefore not a good company? Maybe by having a green sing saying, This Office Takes Care of the Enviroment for All of Us to Enjoy it, We Strive To Achieve a Better Use of Electricity In Benefit of All... in example. In this way you change the perception of a customer thinking that the office is empty and not enough people around, the key is communicating why we do things to reinforce your idea plus you are considering all the people who you work with in the effort of taking care of the issue, people like to know you care about them, boss, coworker and customer. Don't drive yourself crazy, save your health first, your emotional stability and THEN ACT reasonably fundamenting your ideals.

Remember, look at the interest of the company, bring a propose, with what you believe is a good silution that saves $ and keeps customers visiting you.

Turning lights off is a good initiative for saving our resources, but plan how effective and efficient is before stepping in a battle. Be creative and find other ways to make it happen, you can convince more people by giving an model example. Try for a week as a test how it works and then tell them, hey, we saved this $ much and we took care of the enviroment, people will see is a good thing.

I hope that helps!

Marc Said:

can you give me tips on how to conserve electricity, water, and phone bills in the office?

We Answered:

Turn off lights whenever the office is not attended to. Have a period where you don't need to have the lights on eg 15mins per hour or day.

Water is hard to save, but I would think that not too much water is consumed.

As for phone bills, try a system could VoIP Technology( voice over internet protocol). This works if you have broadband internet and your phone calls are made thru the net.You save on local calls, calls to mobils and free calls if you call someone with the same provider as you.

How does conserving electricity help to protect the environment?

We Answered:

Most electricity (in the UK) is generated by burning either coal or gas - which releases CO2 and other pollutants into the atmosphere, so using less electricity means that the power companies would burn less fuel.
