I have to do a Water Conservation Presentation and I need some ideas on what to include!?

Are you familiar with the declining water tables underneath the mid-west and san jauquin valley? (I really have no idea how to spell that, sorry) if not you might want to look up on those, there are some pretty scary facts. Also look at what amount of fresh water is frozen in the glaciers and how much of its melting into the ocean now. Hope I helped(=

Easy water conservation tips?

things you can do right now:
When washing clothes, wash full loads.
The same thing with dishes. whether by hand or in a dishwasher, wash full loads, not a lot of little ones.
don't let the water run when you are brushing your teeth.
Take showers as quickly as possible

(this next one is one that is just too gross for me to do but it does get suggested) don't flush the toilet each time you use it. Or flush the solids each time but save the liquids for once a day. (eeewww, sorry I just can't do that one, but some people have a higher squick factor than I do)

if you don't already have a low flush toilet, change your toilets out to them OR if that isn't possible right now--fill-up a gallon or 1/2 gallon jug with pebbles or aquarium stones and place it in the flush tank. This will displace some of the water that goes into and out of the tank and you won't use so much water when you flush.

Make sure you don't have any leaky faucets and get them repaired ASAP. If you have a toilet that runs constantly get it repaired. Learn how to do minor plumbing repairs yourself to save on the expense.

When the weather warms up. Gradually switch your landscaping over to native plants or similar compatible plants. These plants will be acclimated to the local rainfall and won't need extra watering if you are not in a drought situation.

conservation tips on recreational water usage?

We Answered:

We have a small (10' x 3') soft sided pool that has an outlet valve which hooks up to a regular garden hose. Since the pool needs to be cleaned out every few days to prevent the water from getting algae and mosquito-infested, we hook up the hose and let the water drain out into our vegetable gardens. This way we get fun out of the water, and get our gardens watered, from the same water dollar.

What are your best energy conservation tips ?

We Answered:

Each time an incandescent bulb burns out in my home I replace it with a cfl. I have noticed a huge reduction in my electric bill. Then I started a small compost where I through my leaves after I chop them up with the mower and other things such as egg shells and coffee grounds. In the spring I spread the compost on my flower bed.
