Why does Joe Lieberman want to give the US government the power to "turn off the internet"?

We Answered:

- Why doe it seem like it’s always Joe Lieberman who thinks of these great ideas? From the Sydney Morning Herald:

US President Barack Obama would be granted powers to seize control of and even shut down the internet under a new bill that describes the global internet as a US “national asset.”

The proposed legislation, introduced into the US Senate by independent senator Joe Lieberman, who is chairman of the US Homeland Security committee, seeks to grant the President broad emergency powers over the internet in times of national emergency.

Titled “Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act,” the bill stipulates any internet firms and providers must “immediately comply with any emergency measure or action developed” by a new section of the US Department of Homeland Security, dubbed the “National Centre for Cybersecurity and Communications.”

Lobby group TechAmerica told ZDNet it worried that the bill would give the US “absolute power” over the internet and create “unintended consequences....

Sidney Said:

Did J( ) Lieberman left the Democratic Party cause Liberals were racist toward Jews in CT.. Shame on Liberals?

We Answered:

William Kristol is a right-wing Republican Jew so of course he is going to denigrate Democrats and anyone who does not like Israel's Zionist policies, or racist policies since the U.N. 25 years ago equated Zionism with racism. A European attitude is not necessarily anti-Semetic. It is just not hard-line. All those supposed anti-Semetic anti-Jewish sources you quoted are right-wing Republicans who want to make Democrats and liberals look bad. There is nothing bad about cheering for Israel to not exist as a Jewish country and incorporate the Palestinians into it.

Lieberman had to switch parties since he lost his Senate primary race to Lamont, so the Republican groups got behind Lieberman and got their constituents to vote for Lieberman, rather than the actual Republican candidate, Allen Schlesinger. The White House under Bush helped Lieberman get the Republicans vote in Conn.

Fred Said:

Should Connecticut's Democratic Party ask Lieberman to bounce?

We Answered:

I think it's pretty tacky for the dems to ask Lieberman to leave the party. Isn't that his choice.

The dems have left him. They are the ones that have changed

Beth Said:

It it possible to recall Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman?

We Answered:

There is no provision in the constitution that allows the recall of federal office holders. But one can file a complaint if they think that he has violated the constitution or even broke the law.

Discuss It!
