People with strong political beliefs often get caricatured, but you're making the mistake of believing those caricatures are accurate. For example, the old trope that conservatives have no compassion. Conservatives are just as compassionate as liberals, if not more so. They just think that liberal solutions are more about making the liberals feel that they've "done something" than actually solving the problem. The welfare system that trapped families in poverty for multiple generations is a good example.
