Democrat vs. Republican philosphy?

We Answered:

Well you are going to look for a long time because opinionated ideas are what make up both parties. There is no mold cut in stone to say who is what.

The far left and the far right is already established. No one can change their votes.

It is the middle of the road where most people fit in that both parties court.

Whats the difference between a Conservative and a Republican?

We Answered:

Very few Republicans are true conservatives but most Democrats are liberal. (this may be contested as some change their positions with the political winds)

Hint: former president Bush was very fiscally liberal, therefore, he was not much of a conservative
President Obama is almost completely liberal with the exception of his position on Afghanistan.

Conservative is just another term for "classical liberal". As time when on, a conservative was someone who tried preserve the ideals of classical liberalism. America's founding fathers were classical liberals. This group tends to have a very literal interpretation of the US constitution and are focused on minimizing government interference into the lives of citizens. They also tend to be more likely to view war as a legitimate response to foreign aggression, real or perceived.

A Liberal, on the other hand, is technically a postmodern liberal. Postmodernism is complex but may be summarized by the Webster definition: "a style and concept in the arts characterized by distrust of theories and ideologies and by the drawing of attention to conventions." For example, a postmodern liberal might distrust the institution of the military or the traditions of free market society. They are the "anti-establishment" types. Postmodern liberals also tend to value contemporary conventions and movements over a literal interpretation of the constitution.
