Although NAFTA has had a damaging effect on our economy, it was an eventuality that we would have had to address sooner or later. We have become an international economy more that ever, more dependent on the economies of other nations than in the past. I was not particularly for it, but do recognize that it would eventually become a fact.
Cap and Trade is just another device by which the government has more control over our private lives and income. It will cost us in both quality of living and productivity. We, because of NAFTA and regulations, are having trouble competing in a world market and more government incurred expense will further damage our manufacturing and transportation industries. Cap and Trade will be the death knell of our industrial and manufacturing sectors.
Campaign spending has been a political football for decades, each side accusing the other of selling their positions to the highest bidder. In spite of contributions, there are millions spent to gain a job that pays thousands. The bottom line is how much power you can gain and what perks you can get from the job. Contributions and funding of campaign laws are designed with loopholes that do not really do anything but give the illusion that they are trying to control it. Politicians will not make a law that interferes with their gravy train incomes.

Republicans tend to want to build more jails.
Democrats tend to want to build fewer criminals (education, after school programs, gun buy-backs, legalization and regulation of drugs, early intervention and outreach on gangs, etc., and other strategies that have been proven to work when attempted. Every dollar spent on prevention saves considerably more on the cost of crime later on.)

Republicans want to give people a fishing pole, and then teach them how to fish so they'll be strong, capable and independent for life.

Democrats want to give people fish, and make them helpless, debilitated and crippled for life. In doing so, the Democrats can hold onto these people as a voter base.
