Erika Said:

what two current events show a desire by some to move towards of away from democratic socialism?

We Answered:

There is no such think as democratic socialism. To set ya straight on your supposition, Democracy is an ideal that reasonable people can reasonably look at a problem and find best solutions and then implement corrective action to absolve the problem. Sure, the United States has a few social programs that it has trouble funding because so many people are out of work these days but that doesn't mean we should repeal the Social Security Act and it's provisions. It also doesn't mean we should repeal the Housing and Urban Renewal Act and it's provisions either.

PS Usually, I ignore loaded questions like these because the assumption is so obviously misplaced.

Wayne Said:

Why is current event/news important/useful in a democratic country?

We Answered:

If people in a democratic country were aware of the news or events going on, then they would do something that might make a difference in the issue. Take global warming for example. If people didn't know about that, then they would continue to do the things that would make global warming worse. But if they knew, they would do everything they can to try to solve it or find alternatives to the things that's causing global warming. Another example would be electing a new President, like what's happening right now. If people knew how the canditates were like, they would more likely elect the person more appropriate for being President.
