The Republican's real beliefs are so far from what the vast majority of American's want, it isn't even funny.

The 'issues' that people truly agree with the Republican party are all wedge issues. Abortion, gay marriage, etc. Mostly stuff that cannot be controlled by government and in most cases should not be.

The truth is most Republican politicians could care less about these issues....they use them to pander to the blocs that vote based on these issues. This is why the 'gay marriage issue' and 'flag burning amendment' and 'abortion issue' all come up every election year.....but is forgotten the moment the votes are cast. They don't want to make any changes with these issues....that would be the DEATH of the Republican party.

Look at it this way....if you vote based on a 'wedge issue'. You are a tool, pawn or slave...whatever. It just means you were deceived.

The current Republican party's real goals are keeping wages low, redistributing more money to the wealthy and an aggressive foreign policy that involves subjugating other sovereign nations. They have shown no inclination whatsoever to support civil liberties that don't directly support the corporations that back them (stuff like the NRA or Tobacco).....right to a trial? torture? spying on Americans? All are OK with them.

Finally, the current Republican party has NOTHING to do with Conservative ideals. Don't even pretend that's the case. Bill Clinton was a bigger fiscal Conservative than any Bush or Reagan.....he controlled spending and balanced the budget. Spending increased more in 2 years of Bush than all 8 of Clinton.....don't even get started on the Reagan legacy.

Where are the real Conservatives? Well, if Barry Goldwater was entering politics today....he'd be a Democrat...without question. And he's a REAL Conservative.
