They can great government jobs all they want, but those jobs don't fuel consumption. Household consumption account for more than 85% of Gross Domestic Product, a pulse of the economy. Businesses that sell goods and services, that aren't run by the government, sell these products. With higher taxes, people have less purchasing power, businesses cut down inventories because of loss of sales, and the economy may slow down. Politicians (both Dem and Rep) LOVE to say they will create jobs, but most don't know how, and blame the economy or education for an unhealthy economy.

Dems believe higher taxes will redistribute wealth from higher income people to middle and low income individuals, thus increasing consumption. Thats what I think they believe.

I heard a guy the other day trashing Obama and I said to him, "Uh aren't you on like your 4th unemployment extension that Obama had put in the Stimulus package because you can't find a job?"
