Letter To Politicians?

We Answered:

Congratulations, you've just joined us independents, welcome to the fold, now all we need to figure out is how to get people in office, because I don't know if you've noticed but there are a lot of people who still think the current system works.

'ClimateGate' appears not to be swaying Senators' cap and trade votes - was that the final denier hail mary?

We Answered:

One can hope. Relevant to this is an interesting point (actually several points) made in a "Livescience" article (reference below). Here is the most significant point:

"If the e-mails truly are the "smoking gun" that the critics of global warming claim them to be — revealing the tip of the melting iceberg of scientific fraud regarding climate change data — then it is puzzling that no one has yet identified the numerous faked studies.

For all the innuendo and accusations, the scientists' critics have yet to locate a single instance of fraudulent research exposed in the e-mails. Personal e-mails between climate scientists may be ill-advised and embarrassing, but by themselves do not provide hard evidence of scientific fraud."

The article further points out that the whole global warming concept does not hinge on the work of a single institution anyway, but the work of many researchers worldwide. The deniers are doing something a bit like like claiming a slar eclipse didn't occur because one observatory was accused of faking a photograph of it (that analogy is also in the article). Also remember that many of these deniers aren't scientists, have no science background, and probably can't tell the difference between good or bad data in any case.

However, I don't believe in the final analysis that this is the last gasp of the deniers (I like "denialist" better). They will continue to fling their nonsense even after the polar caps have melted, the polar bears are dead, Florida is under water, and Kansas and Nebraska are desert rather than farmland.

Cash For Clunkers A Failure?

We Answered:

There are no free cars.
You have to have registered and insured the clunker car for the past 12 months.

Louis Said:

Is it democratic or fascist to try and silence and ostracise scientists for expressing their findings?

We Answered:

I'm sorry... Why aren't the 400 scientists that are behind the letter not free to express to the science minister their concerns about the two skeptics? There's also nothing in the quote that you provided that implied they are trying to "silence" the skeptics. It would seem to me that this process is completely democratic... Fascism would be if the president actively participated in ignoring what the vast majority of scientists were saying and had energy policy meetings with big oil and coal behind closed doors.

Edit:
So my disagreeing strongly with your belief means that I'm trying to silence you? If I tried to explain to someone else how you're wrong, I (along with many others) am right, and they should stand up next to me in pointing out that you are wrong then I'm a fascist?
I'm sorry, but the AGW denial movement is far more fascist in nature.

P.S. Is it just me or is James E getting more bent as time goes by?

Donna Said:

would most citizens agree to the following rules in politics or is it asking too much?

We Answered:

Yes I would agree with all that you have posted! You are on the money, and stated it very well. This is exactly the way I feel, but you left out one more very key component...Term Limits, without life time benefits. No elected official should be allowed to hold office for more than two terms. This is at the root of all political corruption. It was never our founding fathers idea to create a elitist royal class of politicians. To serve should be an honor, not a right! Nor should our elected officials be able to stay in office, and get rich while pretending to serve the public.
