Democrats Against Obamacare

Wilma Said:

Aren't you loving watching the GOP pit Democrats against Democrats in the Obamacare debate?

We Answered:

words of caution: declaring "mission accomplished" too soon is generally not a good idea, especially in politics. There is a reason the saying "don't count your chickens before they hatch" has been around for centuries.

Randy Said:

Why are socialist democrats against obamacare?

We Answered:

Some Democrats are more interested in protecting their own job that the health care of the nation.

The GOP answer to rising health care costs and millions without health care coverage - go slow, do nothing. After all, we know full well that lobbyists from the insurance industry pumped millions into trying to gut health care reform.

"...destroy our healthcare system as we know it.." - spoken like someone with coverage and a tough luck attitude to those whose only option is the emergency room. Getting them primary care early and avoiding expensive trips to the ER saves money.

Have a nice day.

The Quality, Affordable Health Care for All Americans Act (H.R. 3590), better known to the public as the health care reform bill, passed in the House of Representatives on March 21, 2010.

There are certain benefits that will come into affect just six months after the President signs the bill. I have seen a lot of questions online about what they are, how they are paid for, and what it means for their own families.

Immediate Benefits In First Six Months:

Children under nineteen years old can not be excluded for pre-existing conditions. Adults will not be able to be excluded beginning in 2014, but can buy into a high-risk pool until then.
Children under 27 can stay on their parents’ policy.
No lifetime or annual caps on coverage.
Preventative care will be free.
The donut hole will be reduced for Medicare patients by raising the ceiling on the initial coverage period by $500.
Insurers can not rescind insurance when claims are filed.
Group health plans will be prohibited from establishing eligibility rules for health care coverage that discriminate in favor of higher wage employees.
Tax credits will be offered to small businesses of up to 35 percent of premiums now, then when Exchanges are operational, tax credits will be up to 50 percent of premiums.

Now, for the flip side of the coin….. How will these new benefits be paid for.

The cost is a matter of great debate. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the coverage provisions in the bill will cost $848 billion for the years 2010-2019. However, aside from the immediate benefits listed above, other major provisions don’t take effect until January 1, 2014. In other words, there will be 10 years of revenue used to pay for six years of coverage making the full implementation upwards of 2.5 trillion dollars according to Republicans in the CBO.

Either way, the plan is to pay for the expansion of coverage by increasing taxes by $493.6 billion and reducing Medicare spending by $464.6 billion.

Reductions in Medicare spending will break down – ( $134.9 billion cut from hospitals, $14.6 billion from nursing homes, $120 billion from Medicare Advantage, $42.1 billion from home health agencies, and $7.7 billion from hospices.)

Some examples of the new taxes are – A 40% excise tax on health insurance plans over $8,500 for individuals and $23,000 for families. Tax penalties beginning 2014 of $750.00 on those that do not purchase a qualified insurance coverage. A tax (free rider mandate) on employers with more than 50 full-time employees if their employee receives a subsidy through the created exchange. A Medicare payroll tax on higher-income individuals. Taxpayers will no longer be able to deduct medical expenses that exceed 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income. There will be a 5% excise tax on cosmetic surgery and other similar elective procedures. There will also be a $60.4 billion tax on health insurers, a $22.2 billion tax on drug manufacturers, and a $19.3 billion tax on medical device manufacturers to fund the expansion.

Morris Said:

Why are more and more Democrats running AGAINST Obamacare, if it is such a wonderful piece of legislation?

We Answered:

Democratic lawmakers do not need ads. The checks that Seniors are receiving now to cover the dough-hole in Medicare, Part D speak for themselves. They are receiving them because the passage of the Affordable Care Act that President Obama signed into law.

Dora Said:

How do Democrats like getting a taste of their own medicine when people protest against Obamacare?

We Answered:

They hate it and are going to do anything they can to stop it, up to and including violence. Watch and see.

Dustin Said:

Why did the Democrats postpone ObamaCare until 2014, allowing the GOP to run against it for four long years?

We Answered:

They know the cost of Obamacare is far more expensive than they're telling. By postponing benefits for four years, but assuming costs now, it looks like it costs far less.
