People do not usually debate to change their opponent's "belief".People debate only when there is choice need to be made on pending action and you want to argue that choice you believe in is correct choice to make.
You CAN debate that by trying to convince others that "belief" you have is correct belief and there fore the choice you picked based on that belief is better choice. (Basically debate on strength of your belief)
OR you can just pay lip service to your "belief" and go for the money shot (your audience's selfish interest which work 100% better)

What you are seeing is the illusion of the infotainment industry.We do not have a news media, we have an infotainment industry, and the driving force behind any aspect of entertainment is ratings.
Who makes better TV, 10,000 peaceful people at a TEA party rally, or the three folks wearing NAZI uniforms with signs claiming Obama is a Jew dupe. You got it.
Who makes better TV, someone who is trying to compromise over legislation, or the party hacks spewing diatribes. Yep.
Who makes better entertainment, leaders who are trying to bring communities together, or a Gangsta Rap group chanting,"Kill Cops". Yep.
People can easily acquire a distorted view of what things are like in this country since the Infotainment industry doesn't present real news, but interesting and entertaining sound bite stories for ratings.
