This is a very broad question, in reality you could probably post pages worth of information regarding their many differences. To put it simply the differences between the parties boil down to ideologies, conservatism vs. liberalism.
Republicans tend to be more conservative while Democrats tend to be more liberal.
Conservatives value small government control, more traditional ideas (pro-life and non gay marriage) and stronger homeland defense.
Liberals value a large government, more non-traditional ideas (gay marriage and pro-choice) and more social welfare (welfare programs, universal health care)

Granted, not all Republicans are conservative and not all Democrats are liberal, but this gives you a better understanding of the two.

States are considered either Republican or Democrat depending on what party holds most power in their representatives and what party the Governor of the state belongs to. So for example, New York has several Democrat elected officials including a Democrat governor, so they are considered a Democrat state. States can change their party affiliation however, since elections can bring in different parties and officials.

Libs want to destroy a country to save a few....

The republicans want to help where they can but believe in making people stand up for themselves and take care of themselves...such as getting an education, a job and taking care of their families instead of asking the government to do it for them.

Libs want everything handed to them...they feel they are entitled to it because they sit on a pity pot and feel sorry for themselves and want to take all the money others are working hard at....and some two jobs at to get by....! It doesn't matter if they don't deserve it....they want it...and they want the government to penalize those that work hard and save and make wise decisions in their life..!

Libs want it NOW...republicans know you work at things to get them. YOu can't have it all now just because you want it. IT takes years to get your life in order......but the libs think it should be handed to them.

Libs prefer government in your lives.....

Republicans believe that government should be less in your lives and take care of AMERICA....

Libs think government should be responsible for jobs and health care and food and welfare etc....

Republicans think this is charity work and we help where we can...but there are limits. We don't mind helping those that need it.....but it isn't a lifetime commitment

We believe in AMERICA and letting business thrive....libs want to punish businesses.!

Republicans want to make America STRONG and keep it strong....

Libs want to make her weak and ineffective!

Isn't it funny how no democrat can tell you what they are about? STRANGE!

Oh...republicans know how many states there are in the union.....democrats think there are 57....just like BOZO does.!

Basically, Democrats believe that every American should have equal rights and opportunities. So, where there is evidence that some have not been granted this equality, the government should provide a hand up to help them get level. The Republicans believe that everyone already has equal rights and opportunities, so nothing should be taken from those who have more, and nothing should be given to those who have less.

There isn't a dime's worth of difference.

Republicans practice mercantilism. They are for big government as long as they control it. They use trade tariffs to subsidize the industries that support their party. They use taxes and regulations to control the behavior of the dumb masses.

Democrats practice socialism. They are for big government as long as they control it. They use government regulations and taxes to further their socialist agenda. They use the tax code to conduct their experiments in social engineering. They use government handouts and welfare to control the dumb masses.

Neither party has a single principle they aren't willing to sacrifice to further their political power.

They are at odds because each wants to control the levers of power.

I always said it was "empathy". Republicans have a hard time understanding that not everyone has the same opportunities they had. They assume everyone who is poor is lazy, and we all know what happens when you "assume" something.
