What are the consequences of democracy?

We Answered:

Some consequences of what America calls Democracy(we don't have a pure democracy because majority rule, not consensus, is used as the benchmark) are, we settle for some things that are not best for everyone, because the most people advocate them; we settle complacently into the idea that we did our part if we simply vote, and we often don't follow up with letters or phone calls to senators or representatives to register our opinion on what has occurred. Generally we are content to, as my mom used to say, do "at" something and not see it through to the end, and we call those who are willing to do such, extremists. Time was, THESE people, the ones who follow through, were the norm , and the fact that we just sit on our laurels doesn't speak well for us. One of the Democratic leaders I do admire was FDR, because he was President, a very demanding job, through World War II, and through having polio, which couldn't have been easy. I can't say everything he did was great, but he showed strength of character in being able to do it for so long with such an affliction. Also, in a democracy, or as close to one as we have, everyone's opinion is to be respected, if not adhered to, unless it includes sedition or incitement to riot or rebellion.

Debra Said:

is this a good essay honest opinion?

We Answered:

I would explain a little bit more why the League of Nations failed, saying things like this:
-Why America didn't join (no support from the public etc)
-Didn't have it's own army and other countries were reluctant to risk theirs
-Often reluctant to apply economic sanctions because it would damage trade in the member countries. Refer to the Manchurian and Abyssinian Crises.
-If a member country didn't like what the League wanted it to do, it would just leave, like Japan did in the Manchurian Crisis.

Also expand on why the Treaty of Versailles caused so much difficulty, saying things like this:
-Many German people were horrified that they had to accept war guilt. It damaged their pride and many weren't even aware that Germany was losing the war.
-The German army was reduced to 10,000 which was tiny compared to other countries, and Germany used to be very proud of their army so this was a huge embarrassment for them.
-The reparations set were enormous and would cripple the German economy, which was already struggling after the war.

I hope I helped :) your essay is good already!

Patrick Said:

Is this a defining difference between Democratic leaders, and, Republican leaders?

We Answered:

I don't know if you could say this was the defining difference between the parties, but it certainly shows the difference in presidential styles. All his time in office, Bush has been content to let others run his administration. Clinton was much more hands-on.

I really noticed this on 9/11 when Bush allowed his handlers to bundle him onto Air Force One and fly him around the country all day while they handled matters. Bush actually said later that he had no say in the matter, the Secret Service took over for his own safety. Clinton would have headed straight to Washington DC to be in charge, because that was his job.

Bush never traveled overseas until he became president. Everywhere he goes he embarrasses us with his ignorance of protocol and diplomacy. And when he does travel, it's only for a photo op. Clinton would actually talk to foreign leaders, he'd be aware of the issues and know what the other guy wanted out of the negotiations. Bush is not able to do that. Bush can't even do an unscripted TV interview because he doesn't know his own opinions and positions until they're written on 3x5 cards for him.
