I am not entirely sure just what you think that socialism will net us as a country, we have already gone there and the climate is hazardous to the economy.
As far as representation, I may be wrong, but it seems that the Democrat and Republican parties have both deserted their traditional base. Both parties been influenced by the progressive movement, maybe the Democrat party a little more than the GOP.
It seems to me from what I have observed in nearly 70 years that the Democrat party leadership and their supporters have moved more toward a Marxist ideology. Obama may have made some deals with the large corporations, but in the end he will nationalize them given an opportunity. There are two sides to the progressive movement, both leading to a full service government. The progressive liberals will push to a Marxist ideology whereas the progressive conservatives will lean toward Fascism. Neither option is appealing to anyone who has studied history. Unless you are in the ruling class of either, you are nothing but a slave to the establishment.
You have intimated that your are of a Socialist nature, but what do you believe that you will gain with that ideology? Each time it has been tried in history, the leadership thought that they had seen all of the pitfalls and knew how to avoid them and each time it has failed. Europe has found that it is very expensive and destroys the economies that utilizes that model. There are some small population countries that have survived it rather well, but large population based countries have always fallen from the weight of the expense of Socialism. If something looks too good to be true, it usually is.

YOU AND I BOTH KNOW that that guy was put there just to appeal to the African American community. Sure he was qualified and everything but why did he get the job out of thousands of other qualified people. I'm sure he is a decent persona nd everything but the only reason he was put there was to "reinvent the main stream image of the Republic Party".
