Human And Democratic Rights

Dolores Said:

Is it right for Australia to claim to be a free country if human and democratic rights are not protected?

We Answered:

There is no freedom of speech in Australia. A few Indian students protest and they are attacked by the police.

Another thing, the police in Australia is possibly the worst police in the world. Indians get their car burnt by a few idiots with these idiots saying "go back to your own country" and "curry-muncher" etc and the police says that these attacks on Indians are NOT RACIALLY MOTIVATED !!

The justice system really really fails in Australia.

Kirk Said:

Australia elects their own government then why government not providing as with human and democratic rights?

We Answered:

your Q is unclear.

Some governments provide human and democratic rights for different communities based on the priorities, don't expect being an immigrant to have equal rights as residents.

i'm upset with Indians, who pick up their baggage and go there. what the heck you guys are doing there ? there are many countries in europe and US also which are better towards immigrants.

Dana Said:

Searching for a religion that pushes for human rights, racial & gender equality, & a more democratic society?

We Answered:

Then, I suggest that you consider the Catholic Church!
They have always championed human rights & social justice.
That covers racial & gender equality with mutual respect.
But homosexual activity or sexual activity outside of marriage is sin.
You cannot have abortion rights, that denies basic human rights.
Catholics certainly teach about stewardship of all Creation; that
women should be treated with equality, & gays with respect.

Geraldine Said:

Can the US use its superpower status to promote free market capitalism, human rights, & democratic government?

We Answered:

Not with a president who is holding us back.

Maurice Said:

how are the human and democratic rights protected in australia?

We Answered:

Under Articles 3 and 21 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948 and in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) 1966.
There's also The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) 1966.

These rights are:
- The right of life, liberty and security of a person
- Freedom of slavery
- Freedom of torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment
- The right to self-determination
- Recognition everywhere as a person before the law
- Equality before the law
- An effective judicial remedy
- Freedom from arbitrary interference with privacy, family, home or correspondence
- Freedom of movement and resistance
- Freedom to leave and return to one's country
- The right to asylum
- The right to a nationality
- The right to marry and found a family
- The right to own and not arbitrarily be deprived of property
- Freedom of thought, conscience or religion
- Freedom of opinion and expression
- The right to peaceful assembly and association

Felix Said:

Prove this statement false: Supporting basic human rights and democratic ideals is a utilitarian principle.?

We Answered:

It's not objectively true or false. It's a philosophical argument.

You are being asked to defend the argument that utlitarian ethics does not support the concept of human rights or democratic ideals.

Basically, the only reasonable approach would be proof by process of elimination. Go through the foundation and rules of utilitarian ethical theory and show why it does not inherently support those concepts.

The other side of the debate has it much easier.
