There is only one person running for the democratic party in Kansas for Governor? We Answered:
You have to love the character of a person in that situation running for office. Obama could support him if he feels the person is legitimate and has a grasp on the issues and has ideas on how to solve the nations problems. If Obama feels this guy is running as a joke or just to fill the Democratic ticket, probably not.Jack Said:
Why did the Whig party collapse in the wake of the Kansas-Nebraska Act? Why did the same thing not happen to?We Answered:
The Whigs were subscribing to a new platform and the most prominent among them, Daniel Webster and Henry Clay were getting too old to fight these battles. They mostly became Republicans who openly advocated freeing the slaves and outlawing owning them. The Democratic party still had a strong Jacksonian-Jeffersonian foundation and it's principles survived.

(Civil War Era) What went wrong with popular sovereignty in Kansas? We Answered:
What went wrong was crooked politics from lobbyists and the antibellum version of GROs. The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 basically nullified the Missouri Compromise, and would allow Kansas to have a public vote on whether they wanted to be a Free State, or Slave State. It was thought that the few slave-owners in Kansas would be out-voted easily. Slave Owners in Missouri, who were a small minority of the state, were afraid slaves would escape across the border, so they 'immigrated' thier people into Kansas to pad the vote (evidently, no one had thought to make a 'residency' requirement for voting at that time), to the tune of several thousand people. The Abolistionists in other states followed suit, and 'imigrated' several thousand of thier own into Kansas to vote. And of course, it never occured to anyone that several thousand opposing people might actually resort to violence, to run the others off. Hence, Bleeding Kansas, another of our governements 'crowning achievements' that could have, and should have been avoided. It became one of the catylists that led to the War for Southern Independence. It caused the Democratic party to lose credibility, and ultimately, the Presidential Election in 1860. So, the War was actually caused not by slavery, but like most of them, Government Stupidity and Apathy. Some things never change........Vickie Said:
Did you know that Fred Phelps of WBC is a Democrat? We Answered:
Yes I knew that. Something else that a lot of people don't know about him is that he was also a civil rights attorney, along with other members of his family, until he got disbarred
