Oregon Democratic Party

Russell Said:

please help me with James Polk and the expansionist Impulse questions ?

We Answered:

For votes.

Linda Said:

why do the parties gop and democratic feel it is discrimination to vote for the best person for the job.?

We Answered:

Because those aren't truly elections, they are primaries. A closed primary (one where you cna only vote for someone for your party) is not really an election for a position (i.e., you're not electing someone for a particular office like governor, etc.). It's actually a set of many elections all taking place on the same time that are done together for convenience. Each of these individual "elections" is actually a poll where each individual party is asking it's own members (in this case, membership is conferred on anyone who wants it) who they think that party should run in the general election. So, for example, at a school, it doesn't make sense that someone who's in the French club can only vote for the President of the French club, and not the President of the Spanish club. The confusion comes because it appears like your actually trying to "elect" someone for a position, but you are not. Once each party has separately decided who to run for each office, a general election is held in which everyone can vote for any candidate, regardless of party affiliation. So it's not discrimination, because you're not being prevented from voting in an actual, final election.

Kathleen Said:

If the Republican and Democratic parties didn't exist...?

We Answered:

Neither, you have conservative and liberal mixed in both definitions. It wouldn't fly. There would be no map, because that's an impossible, implausible configuration.

Benjamin Said:

Can u identify these description about history ?? ?

We Answered:

This is the 54'40 parallel. During the 1844 election year the Democrats called for ALL of the Oregon territory to be annexed to the United States. (54'40 was its northernmost limit, somewhere in the North of British Columbia, near Alaska's panhandle). Fifty-four Forty or Fight! would become a slogan tied to the hope of that annexation as Americans followed the Oregon trail into Oregon, Idaho and Washington. The Whigs were against annexation, while the Democrats supported annexing Oregon territory and a war with Mexico to annex Texas.

Lucille Said:

Why Are Some Racially Diverse States More Conservative Than Some Lily White States?

We Answered:

Many rich whites vote Democrat because it absolves them from any responsibility in helping the poor.
We conservatives know that donating our own time and money is much more compassionate and effective, but liberals believe voting to keep people reliant on government handouts is compassionate. So these rich whites who are out of touch with the rest of America will vote Democrat.
