Depends on how your state portions electors, some do it by congressional district, in which case voting against the majority of a state in a district that is against the majority will actually count for something.

Most states use the winner take all system, so voting against where you'll probably lose is somewhat of a wasted vote.

democrats tend to lean to having more freedom for all at just about everything. Republicans have a more traditional appeal to their beliefs. They are basically opposite of each other. there are many things that differ but this is the simplest way i can explain.

In between all the hatespeak and political spin, I'll try to give you an objective explanation. Democrats consider them populists or "progressives". Typically, the Democrat party believes, as a matter of policy that the government (at many levels) should be the solution of first choice whenever any person has a problem in their personal life. Republicans, on the other hand, believe that only those truly needy should be supported by the government, and there DOES tend to be more support of business by Republicans, on the theory that by allowing businesses to keep more of their profits, more jobs are created, thereby bringing in revenue to offset the tax cuts given to the corporations. It is not really possible to be both a Democrat and a Republican, although some people do take sides on various issues that agree with different philosophies. For example, they may agree with the traditional Pro Life stance of the Republican party, and believe that abortion should be rare. On the other hand, they may believe the Democrat party philosophy that people in many minority situations should be given preferential treatment in hiring, college enrollment, etc. etc.

Ummm... i'm 13 and i'd like to tell u that you should not choose either, and when watching the news watch both extremes, see which one you agree with, and please don't post a question on yahoo answers because all you will get is stupid people insulting other people because they are a Republican or a Democrat.
