I completely agree with you. Democrats are the traditional racists. They fought for slavery in the Civil War, while the Republicans in the North fought for abolition. Jim Crow, segregation, black codes were all started by Democrats and Democrats in the South would even hold blacks at gunpoint and make them cast votes for Democratic candidates, if they were allowed to vote at all.

Some other notable racist Democrats were Strom Thurmond, who filibustered for 24 hours trying to stop passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1948 (?) I think.

Another was Dolph Briscoe, Democratic governor of Texas in the 1970s. A bill was passed that required states to provide, on voting forms and ballots and other government-ran programs, to provide them in Spanish because at the time there was a growing Hispanic population. The Democrats were greatly opposed to that.

Another was Orval Faubus. In 1957 he, in defiance of the Supreme Court ruling in Brown, ordered National Guardsmen into a school in Arkansas to prevent black students from enrolling. Eisenhower (a Republican) sent in federal troops to escort the black students to class. He also stationed a number of soldiers at the school for the entire school year to protect the students from racist Democrats.

Also, to the poster above, David Duke initially ran in 1979 as a Democrat. He ran in other elections as a Democrat too. When he realigned with the Republicans it was party politics; he was doing what it took to get elected. Like Specter becoming a Democrat. All a political game.

And yes, Robert Byrd was a Klansman.

Jesse Jackson, Democrat, refers to New York City as "hymie"-town, a racial epithet for Jews.

And yet another one: Bull Connor.
