Australian Election Polls

Mario Said:

Australians only....Election Surveys and Polls?

We Answered:

Polls rely on having an even playing field of respondents. This on ordinary subjects can prove difficult to achieve. With an election, impossible! The average "Aussie" will either vehemently express their political view, be it left or right persuasion. [fixed voters] or not reveal/or disguise their actual leanings [swinging voters]. It is the swinging voter that decides the real outcome of elections, if they are not willing to reveal their intent and wrongly answer questions, deliberately, then the Poll result becomes biased. The question, itself, can be couched in terms that sway and bias the response and Pollsters (those that formulate the questions) are well versed in their art. To conclude I can only add what I learned through 4yrs. of Politics at University: Any survey or Poll can produce the desired result of the Enquirer through either question manipulation or manipulation of the Target Group e.g. Asking a question on the effects of unemployment would gain totally different results if asked in an area of high wealth as opposed to being asked in a welfare dominated low socio-economic area.

Loretta Said:

For the Australian election, when we actully go to the ballots, which parties will be on the ballot paper?

We Answered:

On the ballot paper there are two halves separated by a line. You can vote above or below this line. Above the line, you must only check the box of the candidate you prefer. Below the line, there are boxes for EVERY candidate running, which tends to be a lot. If you vote below the line you must mark these boxes all in order of preference, 1 being most preferred.

You will see candidates from the Greens, Labor (just a note, there is no 'u' in the name of the Labor party), Liberal, Family First, Independents, Democrats, One Nation, perhaps the Sex Party, and many more.

Clayton Said:

If another Australian election was held, do you believe we would still have a hung parliament as polls suggest?

We Answered:

I think that if another election were held labor would be out mainly because people would not vote for the greens as they have started to wake up to what a disaster they are, with no costed or clear policies.
Whoever comes up with a firm policy on immigration and islamification of our country will get my vote!

Marion Said:

Australian Election?

We Answered:

Hopefully people wont forget this time and remember the war in Iraq so making Australia vulnerable to a terrorist attack not safer also work place relations and the fact he is not getting any younger and that Peter Costello is his predecessor.
Unfortunately people mostly will remember how the economy is going and how it affects them but I think it is time for a change and Kevin Rudd will make a very good leader.
So we will see if we have any red herrings thrown at us again like the Tampa or interest rises and if we fall for it again
