Travel tips in Sri Lanka this year?

We Answered:

Sri Lanka is VERY safe to travel now. The war is over and there will be no bombs exploding in the middle of the cities.

There is political unrest, but you don't have to worry about it unless you plan to participate in those activities. It's just people protesting, and police attacking them with tear gas and batons stuff. Nothing serious.

But the conditions in North and East are not as safe as in South. There are no more AK-47 wielding rebels, but there are undetected land mines. But all the roads and tourist spots are properly cleared and thousands visit them without any problems. So basically in the North and the East, if you keep away from the jungles and stick to the roads and tourist spots, you are safe.

Sri Lanka is a diverse country and the places you can go vary on your taste.

Beaches:
1. Hikkaduwa in south coast (near Galle) good for surfing
2. Nilaweli in east coast (near Trincomalee) good for snorkeling

Wild Life:
1. Yala : dry, tropical forest. deer, wild buffalo, sloth bear, leopard and elephant in abundance.
2. Wilpaththu: dry tropical forest. deer, wild buffalo, sloth bear and one of the best places in the world to spot leopard
3. Uda Walawe: dry tropical forest; the best place in Sri Lanka for elephant watching
4. Kuamana: bird watching
5. Sainharaja: tropical, virgin rain forest.
6. Horton Plains: cloud forest 2300 meters above sea level; elk in abundance, and you can spot a few leopards if yo are lucky.

Ancient Ruins:
1. Anuradhapura: Ancient city 2500 years old.
2. Polonnaruwa: Ancient city 1000 years old.
3. Sigiriya: Ancient city made on a rock. 2000 years old. Impressive architecture and frescos.
4. Dambulla: Ancient temple carved in a rock cave, 2500 years old.
5. Kandy: Last seat of the Sinhalese kings. Temple of the Tooth (a temple holding the tooth relic of Lord Buddha). 500 years old.

Other Locations:
1. Pinnawala elephant orphanage: An orphanage of elephants. You can see many elephants (tamed) in all kinds of age and size.
2. Dalada Perahera: An prestigious festival held in Kandy in August. In a vibrant display of Sinhalese culture, the Holy Tooth Relic is paraded through the streets of Kandy. A must see.
3. Nuwara Eliya: You can see remains of the British colonial past in tea estates, bungalows and architecture. Rich in history and natural beauty.
4. Peradeniya Botanical Garden: A botanical garden near the city of Kandy.

Enjoy your visit. You are most welcome in Sri Lanka

Jenny Said:

Why is India helping Sri Lanka for the Govt not to face War Crime Charges from U.N?

We Answered:

Because the supposed "war crime" inquiry demand was coming from western nations including the UK that is accused of gross violations of human rights and committing war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. The matter in Sri Lanka was an internal issue whereas Western nations were committing war crimes outside their borders, in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Interestingly, the UK went to wage war against Iraq against the UN ruling based on the purported claims of WMD. This is a war crime and needs to be investigated, however, the western nations protect themselves and never investigate themselves.

Susan Said:

Sri Lanka and Israel, behind the assasination of the late Mr Rajiv Gandhi ?

We Answered:

Prabhakaran has himself admitted that LTTE killed Rajiv Gandhi. Also Indian intelligence has much proof against LTTE.

I admit Sri Lanka opposed the presence of IPKF in their land, but at that time, LTTE was much larger enemy to India, as it killed Indian soldiers, created problems in peace talks & killed many Tamil leaders on whom India was depending for peace talks.

It doesn't mean that Israel was behind the plan becoz RDX used there was made in Israel. LTTE might have smuggled them.

Everett Said:

What are these observations of international politicians for Sri Lanka to follow"the laws of the land"?

We Answered:

I agree with you and we should boycott Sri Lanka.

Chester Said:

Sri Lanka temproary ceasefire is a political influential game by Congress?

We Answered:

You are absolutely right, not only that the current trial of Kasab has been literally started to project Congress's against-the-terrorism face which we all know is not true.

Discuss It!
