Federal Election Australia

Evelyn Said:

Is Labor or the Liberals less likely to let in more immigrants into Australia after the next federal election?

We Answered:

The political parties have nothing to do with letting in immigrants. If you have a skill that is in short supply, then it is very easy to migrate into Australia. However, it does not mean that you will assimilate well.

Generally, if you are white, Anglo-Saxon or Anglo-speaking then you'll have the easiest time assimilating. There is still a lot of racial intolerance esp for Asians and Blacks.

Greg Said:

what is currently happening with the federal election in australia?

We Answered:

Kevin Rudd is favored to win over John Howard because the Australians are no longer in favor of his policies on higher taxes but poor public services.

Amy Said:

What year was the first Federal election held in Australia?

We Answered:

Federal elections for the inaugural Parliament of Australia were held in Australia on March 29 and March 30, 1901 following Federation and the establishment of the Commonwealth of Australia. The election resulted in a win for Edmund Barton's Protectionist Party with 31 of 75 seats in a minority government with Labour's 14 seats against George Reid's Free Trade Party on 28 seats. The event would be important for setting the template for future federal elections and the fact that those elected determined much of the character of Australian parliamentary democracy and protocol from then to the present day.

Cynthia Said:

why do you have to vote in pencil and not pen for federal election in australia?

We Answered:

The provision of pencils in polling booths is a requirement of section 206 of the Electoral Act. There is, however nothing to prevent an elector from marking his or her ballot paper with a pen if they so wish. The AEC has found from experience that pencils are the most reliable implements for marking ballot papers. Pencils are practical because they don?t run out and the polling staff check and sharpen pencils as necessary throughout election day. Pencils can be stored between elections and they work better in tropical areas. The security of your vote is guaranteed as the storage and counting of ballots is tightly scrutinised.

Mark Said:

How long till the next federal election in Australia?

We Answered:

Parliament can last for up to three years after the first sitting.

The election laws allow a period of up to one hundred forty days between the calling of an election and the sitting of the new parliament. That means that the maximum period of time between elections could be just under three years, five months.
