How To Vote In The General Election

Jo Said:

How does Obama expect to get FL and MI votes in the general election?

We Answered:

He shouldn't. If he's the nominee, he'll lose both.

Micheal Said:

Obama supporters : could you vote for her in general election ?

We Answered:

Only if you will vote for Obama if he wins.

Esther Said:

How does the presidential vote process work and what does it take to win in the general election?

We Answered:

Take the time to learn about the electoral college. Popular vote doesn't count for much in the general. The general is more like the republican primary - win a state you get all the votes from that state.

There are states that always go republican (red states) and states that always go democratic (blue states) and there a few that swing. It is the swing states that determine the winner of the general.

Here's a link for you to start learning. Note that the numbers are out-dated (March 6) and no doubt will be less favourable for Obama than they were March 6.

According to the linked calculation of electoral votes, both Clinton and Obama were winning the electoral college as of March 6. That has probably changed.

Helen Said:

Can Hillary pull in enough independent vote to win a general election?

We Answered:

Very unlikely.

Alice Said:

Before you vote in the primary or the general election, do you plan to read the candidates' positions?

We Answered:

Personally? Yes. But you do have to realize that there are many who firmly follow instructions and believe what they are told by those in whatever party they follow. For them, positions mean less than blind partisan faith.

That's the kind of stupidity that got us into this mess.
