Massachusetts Senate Election
Daisy Said:
When Brown wins the Massachusetts Senate election, will it be the NEW Boston Tea Party? We Answered:
No. It will be the new "Shot heard round the world."Patsy Said:
How did the Senate election in Massachusetts in January 2010 influence the legislative process for the healthc? We Answered:
After the summer 2009 passing of Senator Edward Kennedy, a special election was called to fill his seat. Although Massachusetts had long been a Democratic stronghold, and Kennedy himself held the senate seat for over 45+ years, there was an upset and a Republican was elected to represent the area. So, not only did Obama lose his mentor, Senator Kennedy, who was a strong proponent for health care reform, but he now had another Republican in the senate to deal with. The many debates over health care overhaul mainly followed party lines; in other words, the Democrats backed Obama's plan; the Republicans didn't. It seems they've found a compromise and things seem to be moving but the election of a Republican to Kennedy's old seat just added an extra fly in the ointment.
Beverly Said:
what does the massachusetts senate election have to do with the constitution and how does it effect us ? etc?We Answered:
The constitution allows each state to have two senators. Since one died in mid term, then held a special election to fill that seat in the senate as allowed by the constitution. How it affects the U.S. is that the senate now has a full roster and the democrat party lost its super majority that allowed it to push through legislation no matter what the opposition party thought of it. Now, in order to pass legislation, the democrats must get at least SOME support from the republicans.
Enrique Said:
Why has no one really raised the issue of the double standard with regard to the Massachusetts senate election? We Answered:
I don't know. Maybe more men voted than women in this election? Maybe the women that voted actually voted on the issues and didn't care if he posed nude? Maybe this election was too important to care if he posed nude?Melissa Said:
Heard on the news today that SEIU is busing 300 members into Massachusetts for Senate election.?We Answered:
they and the panthers should be considered "obammy's brown shirts"Ross Said:
What lessons will the Congressional Democrats take from Coakley's loss in the Massachusetts Senate election? We Answered:
Hopefully, both parties will learn that the tide is changing. Seems these people now think they can pass laws, with a provision that the laws do not apply to them. The voters are starting to take over "their" government, and I applaud them since it is about time.
