Thirty years of civil war means that anyone in that region who is below 35 would have grown up in war and shelling. The struggle had reached a point that no one knows what they are fighting for to start with.
Are the poor Tamils living in North East Sri Lanka happier now? Yes, when compared to what they had earlier. They are in camps and run low of food and water, but yet they are better off than living (or dying) in a war zone. It is the overseas Lankan Tamils who propagate the idea that war should resume. They have funded this all these years living in ease and prosperity. It is only as long as there is a war in Lanka can they claim asylum in the west. If they are so keen on loving Tamil land, why aren’t they living in TN than in Canada and UK (where they make a sizable population)? Wouldn’t it be much easier for them to communicate with their Lankan counterparts from India? But they rather chose the comfort of the west. While they feast with their “asylum status” they make sure that their brothers and sisters in Lanka suffer because of them.

Eye for an eye making the whole world blind! Why did the Tigers assassinate other Tamil activists in Lanka? Why did they hunt down Padmanabha in Chennai? The sufferings of Tamils are caused by the Tigers. They by their systematic removal of other Tamil figures made their Lankan brothers as a “naathiyatra samoogam”! The only way to help the Eelam Tamils is to work with the Sinhalese government, rather than to keep picking on it. How many years do these warmongers want this struggle to go on? Do these people really care? I don’t think so.

Yes, Lankan Tamils are better off now, but the international community should make sure that they work with the Sinhalese government to help the people who suffered because of years of war!

Actually the DMK is also a pro LTTE party in essence but playing safe now as it is in need of the Congress support in the legislature for its survival and the Congress is sensitive to any support to the terrorist organisation in India, because of its killing of their leader and former PM, Mr.Rajeev..! If only the DMK was in majority in the state, their reaction to the island war would eclipse all the shows of the multiple groups now staging protests!

But essentially I dont share your view and the above respondent, who would like to have us believe that the average Tamil citizen here is less sympathetic to the plight of his fraternity in Lanka.. The shouts of the splinter parties (MDMK, Liberaion Panthers, PMK etc) here are not truly for the average Tamils in the island but for the LTTE who they claim as the defendents of Tamil liberty there, knowing fully that they had killed more Tamils than the Lankan military in the past and present (using them as human shields)!

Many of these parties are allegedly helping the tigers for smuggling fuel and ammunition as well as providing free publicity in their favour, in return for alleged financial favours received in abundance (the parties being starved of funds for survival as they are not in power) from the blood thirsty organisation.

They are also afraid to break away from them after receiving much financial favours, as the former will not hesitate to do away with them if these guys betrayed the organisation in the hour of need..!! The view is highly probable given the track record of the LTTE having done away with the Tamil leaders of their own country in the past !!

We Tamils here do feel for the plight of the brothers caught between the terrorist and the army but the cessation of war would only help the LTTE to regroup its resources and come up with fresh hostility as done in the past.. The elimination of the organisation would at least free the Lankan Tamils in the north to get rid of one nuisance and concentrate on the ethnic problem with govt through more democratic Tamil parties there.

So it is best for people like you not to repeat the false propaganda of the vested interests here, parroting protests like the innocent students and politicised lawyers (their main job being to bail out the party cadres ever getting involved in some crime..).

If you are also a member of one of these dubious parties, then carry on your malicious campaign and there would be people here to laud you, from your own camps at least..!!
