Georgia Said:

Will you as Christians pray this for Oboma?

We Answered:

I have to admit Bill that I am a bit resentful over him winning. Even as I read your letter I am being stirred emotionally in wanting to resist what your saying . Mostly because I know you are right that as Christians we should respect and support who God has allowed to take the reigns. I think if I were to begin praying for him it would help. I'm not so much against him as I am his policies. More specifically abortion and gay rights. Very good post. I hope people latch on and apply it as I suspect there are many people who are a bit resentful and bitter about Obama being in the white house which although is not a Christians way to respond I can understand their frustration. Personally I don't have much confidence in this man changing even with Gods people praying behind him. But I sure hope that he does for the sake of our country.

About American civil war ? why I support the South (Confederate forces) against federals forces ! Why ?

We Answered:

Here is an answer I posted to another question as to why the Southern states seceded.....and it wasn't because of slavery!

"The Southern states didn't 'succeed', they seceded. The reason WE seceded from the Union was due to states rights. The Constitution specifically enumerates the powers delegated to the federal government. The powers not specifically given to the Federal government are retained by the respective states. That's how the framers designed it. So the States would be a counter balance to the central government. When the Feds overstep their powers to an injurious point, the states could leave the union and set up a government more suited to their needs. When Mr. Lincoln was elected, he wasn't even carried on the ballots of most of the Southern states. The republican party of 1860 was about as radical as any you can imagine. They were made up of the remnants of the old Whig Party who believed in what they called "the American System" which was really the old British mercantilist system of government subsidized internal works. Government controlled banks, government bailouts of failing businesses and internal improvements all paid for by the taxpayers. The republicans also had a large 'radical abolitionist' contingent. There were abolition societies in the South before the war, but the northern abolition groups encouraged slave uprisings that would have left hundreds of whites dead. The uprisings on the island of Jamaica in 1802 which decimated the islands white population were still vividly recalled by most Southerners. They had asked the government to help them prevent the northern abolitionists from passing out pamphlets (yes, some of the slaves could both read and write) and attempting to stir up racial strife in the South. When Mr. Lincoln was elected, they felt the radicals finally had the upper hand and if they remained in the union as it was, it would only be a matter of time before the radicals actually incited a riot. Some prominent abolitionists such as Henry Ward Beecher openly advocated that the Southern population should be exterminated and the region colonized by northerners. When seven Southern states left the union, Mr Lincoln called on the remaining states to supply 75,000 troops to force the states back into the union. When that happened, four more Southern states seceeded in protest of Mr. Lincolns abuse of power."

Now let me add something else. The war wasn't actually a 'civil war' but two seperate governments contending. It would be similar to the Iraqi armys invasion of Kuwait in 1991.That wasn't anymore a civil war than ours was.
Furthermore, to state that the north was against slavery or that the South supported it is pure nonsense. Abraham Lincoln stated in a letter to New York Tribune editor Horace Greeley in August 1862: "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union and is not to save or destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing a single slave, I would do it; and if I could do it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery and the colored race I do because I believe it helps save the union" ('short Life of Abraham Lincoln' by Nicolay, pg 336) Therefore we see that the north was not bent on ending slavery, nor did the South really care to retain slavery as only about 10% of all Southern whites were slave owners, anyway. Therefore, 90% of Southern whites had no vested interest in the continuance of the slave system. And just where did the South get their slaves, anyway? They were shipped in Slave ships owned, manned, and equipped out of Boston, Mass., New York City, and Rhode Island. The last slave ship captured off the coast of Africa was the 'Nightingale' of Boston, Massachussetts, captured at the mouth of the Congo riveron April 21st, 1861 with 900 Africans on board. It was captured by the U.S. Navy sloop 'Saratoga'. The captain of the Saratoga, John Julius Guthrie, soon thereafter resigned his commission in the U.S. Navy to join the Confederate service as he was a South Carolinian. (New Orleans Picayune, 1880). The first slave ship from America was the "Desire" from Boston, Massachussetts, and which sailed from Marblehead, MA. Thomas Jefferson said of the slave trade: our Northern friends who were tender under these censures, for, though their people have very few slaves, yet they have been considerable carriers to others". (The Gray Book 'South Not Responsible for Slavery', pg 13)

The Confederate military is worthy of your approval and respect for this reason. In four years of conflict the Confederates total manpower was 938,000 men whereas the Federal troops numbered nearly 3 million. They should have been a pushover, but due to their stamina, determination and fighting ability, they held off their enemies for four years. At no time during the American 'Civil War' did Confederates pillage or rob civilians. Even when the Army of Northern Virginia invaded Pennsylvania in order to take the war to the enemies country and relieve the Southern civilians of the burden of supporting two foraging armies. Gen'l Robert E. Lee issued orders that the civilians should not be molested in any way. He even protected the farmers fencerails!
You said you liked "Gone With The Wind". A great deal of that movie is based on Margaret Mitchells family history. She was a distant cousin of mine. She did tend to go rather light on the invading Yankees in the book. When Shermans bombardment of Atlanta ended, the streets were littered with the torn bodies of women, children, and servants. ("Company Aytch" by Sam Watkins). Sherman 'allowed' his soldiers to basically take anything that wasn't nailed down as he marched through Georgia and burn what they couldn't carry. There were reports of robbery, rape, torture, and murder throughout Georgia and South Carolina behind Shermans army. There were women working in textile mills in Georgia who were taken at gunpoint and marched up to sixty miles and put on trains and shipped north. Most were never heard from again. Not until the Nazi 'relocation' plans for the European Jews was such a diabolical plan implemented again. In another instance, women, children, and old men were marched up a road at bayonet point in front of Federal troops who thought the roadbed had been mined.

And finally, if secession is rebellion and treason as asserted by Lincoln and his cabinet, what does that make the founding fathers of these united States who seceded from Great Britain and rebelled against the rule of the British government?

"Any people or section of people may if they are able, separate from a government they find injurious and set up a more favorable government to their ends" Abraham Lincoln, 1848, on the floor of Congress.

Yes, I am from the state of Georgia. My ancestors fought in the American Revolution and the 'Civil War', and yes I agree that war is a truly terrible thing. Targeting civilians is unconscionable and unacceptable.

Since you asked, if the Confederates had won I don't think they would have remained a separate country, but would have rejoined the U.S. at some point. I believe that the slavery question would have eventually been resolved with a gradual and sensible abolition of the institution. I doubt that the U.S. would have gotten involved with international affairs in the early 20th century to the degree that they did since the Southern states would have held that the government would have to adhere more strictly to the U.S. Constitution than they actually have (or still do). We probably wouldn't have gotten involved in World War 1 and the European powers would have eventually worked it out much as they had all their other wars. That would have prevented World War 2 from ever being fought, and there would have beeen no cold war. Of course this is all speculation. No one knows for sure, but the Southern states originally didn't really want to secede from the U.S., but felt they had to for their own protection.

What should I do for my "video blog"?

We Answered:

You need to make up a name. Then dress as a farmer. You are for Andrew Jackson, because he is a good ole boy, war hero from Tennessee. You will talk, as your teacher suggested about the results of the election of 1824. You feel Jackson got ripped off, and tell why. Search elections on net, or your textbook. Of course mention something bad about the others who pulled of the "corrupt bargain" Just talk one sided about Jackson. Of course mention your hardships, and how Jackson is going to improve them. Good Luck. You could even have a girl friend dress country, and tell how great and handsome Jackson is and mention his wife Rachael. Good Luck have FUN.

What's Al Gore ever done to you?

We Answered:

Al Gore grew up as a spoiled rich kid who has never had any real exposure to what it means to go to work to make a living and raise a family with money that you have earned on your own rather than money that you have inherited..

Al Gore inherited millions of dollars from his father who received those millions of dollars providing favorable legislation and access and influence for big oil companies.

Al Gore is now telling us that we must reduce our carbon dioxide emissions by 90%, that is less than one tenth of what they are today.

In order to accomplish that we would have to shut down our modern economies and return to a stone age hunter gatherer way of life.

We would have to shut down all motorized transportation. There would have to be a ban on all automobiles, motorscooters, motorcycles, buses, trucks trains, planes, and shipping world wide.

Next we would have to shut down all manufacturing, steelmaking and cement making world wide.

Next we would have to ban the heating and air conditioning of all homes, offices and factories worldwide.

Next we would have to ban the heating of all water for washing and bathing.

We would have to learn to bathe in cold water.

This is completely unrealistic.

Al Gore's proposal that we cut our carbon dioxide emissions by 90% is impossible and is absolutely ridiculous, unles we are willing to return ot a primitive stone age existence.

Al Gore does not know what he is talking about, yet he passes himself off to the media as some sort of expert.

Al Gore is clueless. If he did not try to pass himself off as an expert on a topic that he knows nothing about there are very few people that would even pay any attention to him

When Al Gore tries to pass himself of as an expert on a topic where he has no expertise, he will receive a substantial amount of criticism, and rightly so, not because people hate him, but because he is claiming expertise that he does not have.
