The General Election

Melinda Said:

Is Hillary desperate to win the nomination even if it means losing the General Election?

We Answered:

She knows she can't win the election and she knows she can't win the nomination. She is in the running to spoil Obama's chances so that in four years she can try to run again.

Jeremy Said:

Carolyn Said:

How are states awarded during the general election?

We Answered:

Each state has electors...one for each Senator and US Representative. The winner of the popular vote in each state takes all electors from that state. Whichever candidate has the most electors wins.

Tanya Said:

C. direct primary

Gene Said:

Are democrats contemplating switching parties during the general election?

We Answered:

I have heard that poll.
I cannot stand Hillary and all the lies and shape-shifting she tries to do. If Obama doesn't get the nomination, I don't know what I will do. I might not vote for anyone.
I don't think the party is polarized, since it is about more liberal social policies. What is pulling us apart is whether we want more lies and bs and clinton shenanigans or a new set of problems.
I am not so ridiculous to imagine that Obama is the Messiah, and has no problems or no blind spots. He is a human being after all. I just think he will honestly address them and move on.
I like Mccain, for the reason that he is the NOT Clinton and the NOt Bush. But he is a war-boy. He has been selling his image as a war-victim forever.Without war, what can he sell?
I want our people home from Iraq yesterday. I want a new way of thinking about our place in the world.
I want US to be strong and able to compete in the world. I want to be leaders in health care, green living and peaceful co-existence
NOt leaders in infant mortality, high school drop-outs and greenhouse gas.
I hope for the future that has me in it.

Jane Said:

What is a general election? What other types of elections are held in the United States?

We Answered:

General elections are held every two years in November. They are intended for electing members of the House, Senate, and the President as well as a plethora of state and local officials.

There are also primary elections held before the general elections. These are held primarily to determine the candidates for a political party. In case on non-partisan elections, primaries usually serve to choose the top candidates for the general election.

There are special elections to fill vacancies. For example, if an election official should die, resign, or be removed from office, a special election to fill that position is usually held.
