What Is Election

Andy Said:

What happens if I win an election for president of a society, but my Nomination form is not valid?

We Answered:

The court would never get involved, because no laws would have been broken, and nobody can claim a financial loss. How it's handled would depend on the rules and structure of the society. Probably the society would have some sort of election committee that precided over the election process. My guess is that they would make a ruling.

My own judgment about what would be fair: If the forgeries were deliberate, I'd say that disqualies you, and may lead to other sanctions as well. If it was accidental, I think that the election committee is to blame for not catching the error sooner. Assuming you can get 10 valid signatures *after* the fact (which should be no trouble), I'd say the election results should stand.

Christine Said:

Is it possible to change the national election date to improve voter turnout?

We Answered:

Most law makers are already aware of those issues, thats why in most places voting starts at 6 am and ends at 9 pm, to make sure there is time for everyone.

They came to a conclusion a few years ago, that even if it were held on a saturday the turn out rate would be basically the same, but it would be the opposite type of people voting.
This was a poll done in 30 states.

But, I think changing the day may help, what you need to do is write to your congressmen and have others do the same

Melissa Said:

How does the British election system work?

We Answered:

The government get elected for a 5 year term, but they can call a general election any time they wish during their 5 year term.

Maxine Said:

What would happen if the general election in November is tied in votes for the delegates?

We Answered:

One candidate has to hit 270 electoral votes. If that doesn't happen, the election is thrown to the House of Representatives. The supreme court only gets involved if there is a legal dispute over the vote count or some other such thing.

Mario Said:

What is the deal with all these threats at congressional offices?

We Answered:

No matter what we disagree on no one needs to be threatened. I agree with you, Vote them out. That is the best weapon.

Tina Said:

Curtis Said:

Can you please explain how Canadian election and the government work?

We Answered:

When a party wins a minority, it means that they have won the most seats of all the parties. BUT if the other opposition parties team up together they can force the conservatives to resign (by voting against them). Together, the opposition has more seats/votes than the conservatives in Parliament. If the conservatives won a majority, the opposition can not force the conservatives to resign (because then the conservatives would have more seats than the opposition combined).

While the conservatives got the most votes, they are still considered a minority because they still don't have enough seats. They have gained a few more in this election, but they need more. 155 seats are necessary to form a majority.

After the election. the conservatives get to form the government, which the other parties cannot do, because they have received the most seats. Conservative Members of Parliament may become ministers, whereas opposition MPs cannot.

Discuss It!
