He extended the hours so that people who have to work can get in and vote. If the polls are only open 9-5, and there aren't enough machines in the first place, thousands of voters are effectively disenfranchised. Since ordinary working people are more likely to vote for Obama, as opposed to well-off retirees who have all the time in the world, this may cost McCain the Florida vote.

But there are also rumors that Crist is pissed at McCain for not choosing him as his Vice-Presidential running mate, and because of it, he doesn't care whether McCain wins or not. So he made it easier for Obama's supporters to get to the polls, which not so incidentally, is their right.
