NDP have made up various majority governments in provinces and served on coalition minority governments federally. They're an important contributor to the political landscape and they have roughly the same favorability ratings as the Liberals and the Conservatives (30%).

It isn't just racism it is anti-Americanism. The whole mindset of this party is against all that america stands for and Obama has confirmed it with his defense of Wright.

Wright talks about how we deserved 9/11, and promotes his hatred of whites and of the Spanish people, through other hate filled rhetoric..

This party is broken and for progressives they are far behind the rest of America, and of course they will find excuses for Obama.

I just wonder though, if this church was so great, why did Oprah distance herself from it in 1990?

Example is with abortion. Democrats say decision should be centralized for all, i.e. Roe v. Wade is law of the land. Republicans say that States should decide individually on abortion restrictions, i.e. Roe v. Wade is incorrect.

You don't provide an example, but your repeated use of the word 'militant' and 'fight' makes me want to say yes, the party is weakened. But on the other hand, sometimes important concepts get aired and the party comes out the other side stronger. No party is uniform, but the Republicans have cowtowed to a party minority for years, and succumbed to a level of infighting that still divides their ranks. I'd say at this point that the Republican party is still in self-destruct mode. They do not have the leader or leaders out there currently to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and represent their core constituency, which is why so many fled and supported Obama.

In the case of Lincoln, he was shrewd enough to assemble a team of his rivals, knowing that by drawing them close the nation would benefit in the long run. It was an appropriate gesture for the times.
