I do oppose some of the items in the Pledge to America. I could explain why I don't agree with them. But there are other problems with them besides just a difference in values and priorities between Democrats and Republicans.
1. Some of these promises are downright impossible. For instance, promising to balance the budget without either tax hikes or significant spending cuts. How can you have any respect at all for a politician who promises something he -knows- is impossible?
2. Some items are worded so trickily that they don't mean anything. 'Stop job-killing tax hikes'. Does that mean ALL tax hikes? Or only those the Republicans decide are job-killing?
3. This is the biggest problem of all. The Republicans have been making these same promises for 30 years now. Much of the time they knew they wouldn't be held responsible for not trying to keep them, because either one or both houses of Congress, or the White House, were controlled by Democrats. But when the Republicans had control of all three, they still didn't even TRY to keep these promises. We had the most pork of any time in history, the biggest deficits, etc. during the time the Republicans controlled the entire fed. govt.

You are absolutely right.It's all in their pledge.
But if this is who Americans want at the helm of this country, then so be it.
We will reap what we sow.

They should just call it what it is: Pure Comedy Gold!It's like the gop is just *handing* the upcoming elections to the Democrats.
Between this cr@p, Sarah Palin, Christine O'Donnell, and the other wingbat tea partiers, this should be a good election year for the Dems.
